Last week I finally let myself believe that the arrival of summer was now almost a fact. I say a fact, because we are talking about Moscow, where the weather is quite unpredictable.
My first winter in Moscow had been really hard and to finally feel the fresh summer air and the warmth of the sun, and smell the fragrance of a nature in bloom was rejuvenating.
I heard a little voice telling me, it's time to move, to be more active.
Luckily, my partner felt the same way! So he suggested we went rollerblading in one of Moscow’s many parks – getting back into shape whilst enjoying nature. I was a bit hesitant at first, since I had never done rollerblading before, but I was willing to try.
We went to a rollerblading club’s shop, located in the heart of Moscow and renowned for its quality products. I tried on different rollerblades: for beginners, for jumping etc. Suddenly, I was terrified! I wondered if all this was going to be was me spending money on something that I would probably never use. I decided I was going to leave it for now and give it a bit of thought. We were just leaving the shop when a girl on a scooter rode past us.
“Wow!” I thought. I’d had an epiphany! We immediately went back inside the shop to check if they sold scooters. They did! The price was twice that of the rollerblades but I knew I was defiantly going to make my money’s worth; I could just see myself "scootering" around Moscow, having a great time. And at that, I wasn't even yet aware of all the advantages of riding a scooter! At that moment, I simply saw it as a way of recreation, transportation and an opportunity to be active.
It wasn't until I dived into the Internet to read about all the benefits of riding a scooter, that I felt even more compelled to continue "scootering" around. I love this article here about losing weight by riding a scooter.
That same day, my boyfriend and I wandered around the city with big smiles on our faces, making jokes, feeling more alive than ever, discovering new places we hadn't known about. We also happened to walk past the zoo and we're now considering going and checking out the diversity of exotic animals in there. (I loved the fact that most of them seemed to live in large spaces, which probably makes them feel free.)
We ended up having our favourite pizza at Osteria Bianca - one of the best Italian restaurants in the center of Moscow. We had a great evening - we enjoyed a glorious sunset and we remained full of adrenaline all the while.
You can watch the video I made that day; I ended up "scootering" inside one of the biggest underground stations in the city. It truly was a very special day!
This experience led me to the conclusion that we must do what we love, and that, by taking action today, our lives can be far better tomorrow.
One quote I truly love is this one:
“When you are present in this moment, you break the continuity of your story, of past and future. Then true intelligence arises, and also love.”- Eckhart Tolle
So, tell me, what activities have you thought of doing but never tried? What stop you from doing it? What did you enjoy doing that actually transformed your life?
I would love to hear from you!
Thank you so much for commenting and sharing and for being such a special reader.
Tons of love,
